Hi everyone — Winakwa Board of Directors, Path Committee, and the amazing people of Windsor Park and surrounding communities,
We’re excited to invite you to a special event this Sunday, August 10th at 8:15 PM at Winakwa Community Centre.
As part of our rebranding initiative, we want to celebrate you — the heart of our community — and hear the stories that make Winakwa CC such a meaningful place for so many. Whether you’ve grown up here, brought your kids here, or simply enjoy the space, we want to capture your experiences and memories.
Narratives, our marketing partner, will be onsite to take photos, record videos, and conduct interviews with community members. These stories and visuals will be used to build our new brand campaign and marketing our project "The Path We Walk Together"
We’re looking for stories like:
This content will help launch our fundraising campaign, attract donors and sponsors, and bring our vision for The Path to life.
Part of the project includes installing 13 City of Winnipeg park benches along the path, available through the City’s bench program. These are considered tax-deductible donations and each bench will include a personalized plaque (note: no logos allowed). We’ve already sold 2 of the 5 benches in the most high-traffic areas — so act fast if you’re interested!
Please feel free to share this invitation with friends, neighbours, and family — everyone is welcome. Let’s celebrate our past and build our future together.
Looking forward to seeing you there,
Winakwa CC President
If slo-pitch is rained out (this is our longest-running league, with three generations playing on the same team!), the event will be moved to Sunday, August 17 at 8:15 PM.
We’re excited to share an early look at the next phase of development in our park space. While construction hasn’t begun yet, plans are in motion for a new walking path that will create a beautiful, welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy.
This phase will include:
There will be space for just 13 benches along the path. Two have already been spoken for, and several others are expected to be reserved quickly. Some may be installed as early as this year, depending on interest.
If you’ve ever considered dedicating a bench in memory of someone or as a way to celebrate your family’s connection to this community, now is a great time to get involved.
Leave a lasting mark in a space designed for reflection, connection, and community pride.
Commemorate a significant birthday, anniversary, retirement, special event or the passing of a loved one by participating in the Park Bench Donation Program.
The Winakwa Community Centre is excited to announce plans to revitalize its underutilized 4-acre lawn, transforming it into a vibrant, multi-use park. We will be constructing a granular walkway around the lawn and a central paved path, spanning approximately 0.5 km. In addition, we will plant trees, shrubs, and prairie gardens, complemented by benches and picnic tables for visitors to enjoy.
A key feature of the park's renewal is the addition of a large 40'x40' octagonal outdoor shelter, designed to host community events and gatherings. We also plan to create a cultural gathering space with a central fire pit, intended for Indigenous ceremonies and community connection.
This new park will provide a dynamic outdoor space for youth and families, encouraging physical activity, social interaction, and a strong sense of community.
Construction will begin in 2025. To mark the start of this exciting project, we are hosting a blessing of the land and a naming ceremony for our new Path and Park Project with Elder Billie Schibler.
