How to Borrow Skates
Step-by-Step Skate Rental
- Skates are free to borrow
- Leave your shoes with us
- Get skates and Enjoy skating!
- Return skates and get your shoes back.
WCC is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal belongings.
NEW This Year
- WCC uses a 'coat check' system to match skates to shoes
- Your shoes & skates are tagged with matching numbers
- The skates work as one ‘tag’ of this system
- The other tag we place with your shoes.
- Do not lend or give your skates to anyone else — this ensures you get your shoes back.
Equipment Loaning
- Skates & helmets are available on a 1st-come, 1st-served basis.
- Helmets are optional; usage is encouraged but not enforced.
- Equipment must be returned by the closing time.
- Return equipment must be returned in good condition.
- Failure to follow procedures may result in loss of borrowing privileges.

- Use of the ice and/or loaned skates involves physical activity.
- Staff and volunteers are not responsible for injuries.
- By skating, you accept all risks, including slips, falls, collisions or injuries. .
Respect & Safety
You expect it and so do we. This facility does not tolerate aggressive behavior, verbal abuse, or harassment towards staff, clients, visitors or volunteers. Inappropriate may result in refusal, of service, being asked to leave or contacting the local authorities.
Personal Belongings
- Confirm with staff when rink doors will be locked for the night.
- All items left overnight will be placed in our lost & found
- Staff will not store items.
- WCC does not charge devices.
- WCC is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal belongings.
School Skating Information
Rink Status
Our rinks are outside, please check current Rink Status before arriving as rinks can close unexpectedly.
Winakwa reserves the right to cancel skating sessions at anytime without notice to accommodate events within the facility.
WCC School Skate Rules
- No private reservations
- All ice is open to the public while you are here - as well as to other schools
- Students who are not on the ice, must be supervised when in the building.
- The community center hosts a variety of events for the community at large, some during weekdays - Please be respectful of others using the center
Equipment Usage
- Skates are limited in number and sizes
- Skates are part of the Skate Lending Program and are available on a 1st come, 1st come basis
- Please see the Skate Lending section of this website
- About 2 pairs per size are available
- Please bring your own when available
- Helmets are available in (mostly) children’s sizes only.
- Unfortunately, we will not be providing sticks or pucks.
- Sticks & pucks (brought by individuals) are allowed on enclosed hockey rinks ONLY.
