Organized by the General Council of Winnipeg Community Centers, the awards “celebrate individuals who go the extra mile to make a positive difference in their communities.”

Dedicating their time, energies and efforts trough strong leadership, organization skills and working harmoniously with others, they shape the future of our community.
Bill Powell Memorial Award
Winner Jackie Hawkins has been volunteering at Winakwa CC for about 4 years, and always steps up when there is a need. She started out as the Stay & Play convenor. From there, she established and directs the Friday night Craft Club, including organizing group holiday crafts, paints nights and more. She is a soccer convenor, is heavily involved with the Winakwa board, and coordinates the many of the kid's activities at the winter carnival. Congratulations Jackie!
Bill Powell Memorial Award
Winner Tammy Winmill-Hope has been involved in our community since 2014; more importantly, in 2015, Tammy joined the board executive as Treasurer.
She supports programming and operational budgets and helps assist new conveners and staff on budget processes in order to keep the Centre on track, financially. Her positive energy and attitude are contagious, and we are fortunate to have her in our community,
on our committee and working for the betterment of our local area.

Since joining the board three years ago, Jackie has been a breath of fresh air for Winakwa Community Centre. Her dedication and innovative ideas have mad significant impact.
Initially involved in the Stay & Play program, Jackie quickly became the shared soccer coordinator. She demonstrated her commitment to kids and parents through her crafts and face painting organization at the annual Winakwa Winter Carnival.
She also launched the Friday night Winakwa Craft Club crafting program, providing adults with a much-needed opportunity for socialization and creativity. Her initiative in running painting nights, and other activities showcases her constant pursuit of new ways to engage the community.
Winakwa is incredibly grateful for all she does, embodying the sprit of an Above and Beyond volunteer.

Christine, as the chair of the Winakwa Community Garden committee since 2018, brings immense value to the Windsor Park community. Her dedication ensures the garden's success, promoting not just the cultivation of fruits and vegetables but also fostering a sense of community and environmental consciousness.
With 40+ boxes available garden boxes, she champions food equity, making nutritious produce accessible to all. Christine's inclusivity extends to neighbouring schools, involving students in learning about food security and community engagement.
Though her leadership, the garden becomes a vibrant space of intergenerational knowledge exchange, where residents, seniors, and students, unite to celebrate the joy of growing and sharing. Christine truly enriches Windsor Park with a flourishing garden and ta thriving sense of community. Congratulations on a well-served Above & Beyond recognition.
